"Mystery of the Sphinx "

The Egyptian Sphinx had its beginning around this period and shows great astrological significance, with its human head on an animal's body (definitely a Lion). It could represent man on earth during 11,010 B.C. the Age of Leo the "sixth day," or may have been a monument built to symbolize the evolution of man from the animal or most likely the triumph of the human spirit over the beast.

"The riddle of the Sphinx of Gizeh, resting by the pyramids like a watchdog, has remained unsolved since the times of the pharaohs. The important point about this story is that the Sphinx was buried to its neck in sand thirty-seven centuries ago. This speaks for the very ancient origin of the Lion-Man even in that distant epoch. The ancient Egyptians called the monument 'Hu' or protector. From early times tradition held that a secret chamber existed under the Sphinx. Does 'Hu' guard a pre-deluge vault with records?" - "The Home of the Gods" Andrew Tomas page 114.

Hu (a god of wisdom) was one of Ras attendants, traveling the night voyage and had a place in the Hall of Two Truths, the judgment hall. Auf, (Efu Ra) was a ram-headed god who wore the solar disc and traveled at night through the underworld to reach the east in time for a new day, also was an aspect of the sun god Ra. His boat was crewed by the gods Hu, Saa and Wepwawet.

If the solution to the riddle is astronomical it may refer to the position of the sun on the horizon, or in the zodiac. The Zodiac of Denderah, oddly opening with the sign of Leo or Lion, registers the entry into a new cycle between 10,959 and 8,800 B.C.

"From the Book of the Dead we learn that the movement of the sun in the sky was guarded by two lion gods or 'Akeru' which stood at the morning and evening gates. The body of the Sphinx is that of a lion, which symbolizes the cycle of Leo. Its head is that of a man. In the zodiac there is only one male figure and that is in the sign of Aquarius. It is exactly on the opposite side of the zodiac from Leo. The message of the Sphinx reads: 'From the epoch of Leo to the future age of Aquarius'." - "The Home of the Gods" Andrew Tomas page 115.

Some believe that the Sphinx is a combined form of woman and lion to recall and reveal the original construction of the zodiac as we know it now, under the sign of Virgo, 15,000 years ago when Virgo occupied the position of the First Sign for an ancient civilization. This could have been a period where men first mapped the stars. The Sphinx may be a monument that foretold something that began with the Virgin and ended with the Lion. It may also represent the two races of mankind, the heavenly man (created) and the counter part earthly man (animal man).

The Great Sphinx that stands at Giza, near the Great Pyramid in Egypt has its head and body carved from solid rock. The paws and legs are built of stone blocks. It is 240 feet (73 meters) long and about 66 feet (20 meters) high.

Recent insights in 1990's on the Sphinx at Giza propose that it was not constructed 4,500 years ago c. 2,515 B.C. as Egyptologist believed. Instead, King Khufu (Cheops) or Khephren, may not have built the Sphinx, but only repaired it. Modern geologists project that the Sphinx is probably 9,000 years old. This is based on the difference between wind and rain weathering on two structures 300 yards apart with totally different wear patterns. The Sphinx seems to have the pattern required for a rain or flood type weathering resulting in rounded surfaces. The other structure is worn by the wind leaving a square or straight appearance. The reality is that one object has to be older than the others. The Sphinx is presently located in the Sahara desert. The geologist believe that this desert was covered by lakes around 10,000 years ago as the Ice Age was closing.

Also included was a study by Seismologists who looked for signs of an ancient civilization that may have been buried deep in the sand. The results of their test supported the above theory to at least 7,000 years ago and also located a position of a possible chamber under the front paws of the Sphinx. Who this ancient civilization may be, is still in great controversy at present and will be a mystery till some future date.
