REVELATION AND JEREMIAH 50-51 REGARDING THE MYSTERY BABYLON
The Jeremiah Prophecy written by David Wilkerson, which in my younger years around the late 1970's I read his book and was impressed with his contents.
David Wilkerson believes that America is Mystery Babylon.    He says so, emphatically in his book, "Set The Trumpet To Thy Mouth": "I believe modern Babylon is present-day America, including its corrupt society and its whorish church system.    No other nation on earth fits the description in Revelation 18 but America, the world's biggest fornicator with the merchants of all nations.    Ancient Babylon was long destroyed when John received this vision." (pages 3 & 4. He continues to prove why, by scripture in his book).
If he is correct in this warning as he states in his books of warnings and visions that he says the Lord gave him.
As I am in my 69th year on this earth I have discovered more as to what Babylon is and we have to understand why the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has offered a way for us to reach his holiness through Jesus Christ.    And I can agree that America aka the United States could be placed as Babylon, but the initial creation of this concept occured when Nimrod built cities and attempted to build or a try to reach to the heavens building his Tower of Babel, which resulted in the loss of a universal language and to me I now believe that Babylon is not just America it is the creation of a World Government trying to control all nations with a Globalism effort which will stifle all nations sovereignty and become the thing that God will detest and destroy as what you read in this article.
---------------------------------------<
Jermemiah 50:1 The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.
The prophecy of Jeremiah 50, states, "Concerning Babylon, the LAND of the Chaldeans..." (Jer 50:1) not just the one-time capital city also called by the name "Babylon."    It is repeated: "For a nation has come up against her out of the north; it will make her LAND an object of horror..." (vs 3), not just the 'city' uninhabited.
All through the two chapters, the identification of Babylon as the "land," the nation, the empire, and not just the one-time capital city also once called Babylon, is repeated over and over: "Chaldea" -- not just the city of Babylon -- "will become plunder..." (vs 10); "Behold she will be the least of the nations," -- not least of the 'cities' -- "a wilderness, a parched LAND, and a desert..." (vs 12); "I am going to punish the king of Babylon and his LAND..." (vs 18) not just his 'city'; The noise of battle is in the LAND..." (vs 22); "It is a work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the LAND of the Chaldeans..." (vs 25) not just the one-time capital 'city' also called at one time "Babylon."
The reason I reviwed this in those early years is that I think it was one of his books that had the prophecy of the 911 event in 2001 which is what I have promoted since then and later when I realized that One of the 7 heads of the G-7 of the beast (a world government) that came up out of the sea (restless nations) and this head had ten horns or powers which soon to me was the World Trade Organization WTO representing 10 regions, and this head had a deadly wound to its head (World Trade Center) in New York, U.S.A. on the 9/11/2001 attack, and eventually that head was dead and came back to life by 2011.
------------------------------------------------
Jeremiah 50:23 How [broken and shattered] is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken!
------------------------------------------------
Jermemiah 50:28 The voice (sound) of them (fugitives and refugees) that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon (from the country, the empire, the nation, not just the one-time capital city also once called Babylon), to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his temple.
-------------------------------------------------
Jermemiah 50:32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle (set) a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him (plural, not just one city and it will devour ALL his ENVIRONS).
-------------------------------------------------
Jermemiah 50:45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.
-------------------------------------------------
    Jermemiah 51:2-4
2 And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.
3 Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.
4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.    "Foreigners... (will) devastate her LAND... Devote all her army to destruction, and they will fall down slain in the LAND of the Chaldeans..."
------------------------------------
>     Jeremiah 51:13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.
------------------------------------
>     Jeremiah 51:20 Thou art my battle axe (war club) and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces (shatter) the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
Isaiah 14:4-6 "...How the oppressor has come to an end!    How his fury has ended!    The Lord has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression."
------------------------------------
>     Jermemiah 51:24 And I will render unto (repay) Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord.
------------------------------------
>     Jermemiah 51:29 And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

>     BEAST THAT CAME OUT OF THE SEA - WTO [WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION] WITH 10 HORNS OR 10 REGIONS OR POWERS OF THE WORLD Rev. 13:1-2 The Beast from the Sea with Seven Heads -- Ten Horns -- Ten Crowns
AND ONE OF ITS 7 HEADS ONE WAS DEADLY INJURED AND LIVED AND THE FOLLOWING SHOWS THEIR 10 REGIONS AND THIS LEADS TO THE KINGS OF THE EARTH: NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, WEST.
1) having seven heads ('Hepta' seven, signifies to be full, completeness; 'Kephale' heads; symbolic of the Imperial rulers of the Roman power, as seven implies the world-power setting up itself as God; possibly seven world-monarchies).    We now know these as the G7, the seven richest industrial nations or the Group of Seven founded in 1997 consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.    These countries are the seven largest advanced economies in the world, represent more than 62% of the global net wealth.
2) The Beast With The Deadly Wounded Head Came Back To Life in Rev. continued 13:3
Was this the attack on the New York World Trade Center in 9/11/2001, which was one of the 7 heads of the Beast which was destroyed and as Revelation 13 says it came back to life which occurred in 9/11/2011.
3) Jermemiah 51:30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
Some claim that the response of Babylon's military when attacked by the nations of the north and or the muslim nations?    Because the destruction of Babylon is so fast, the generals and admirals have basically given up and are just awaiting the end that is coming--death by fire and radiation.
------------------------------------
>     Jermemiah 51:42-43
42 The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.
43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

> Other scriptures to ponder which favor that the entity is a World Government
Revelation 17:1, "...the great prostitute, who sits on many waters."
Revelation 17:15, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages."
Revelation 17:18, "The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth."
Revelation 18:7, "In her heart she boasts, 'I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.'"
Revelation 18:3, "...and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries."
Revelation 18:11, "The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes any more..."
Revelation 18:15, "The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment..."
Revelation 18:23, "...Your merchants were the world's great men.    By your magic spell all the nations were led astray."

Here's a good read and reason America and "Mystery" Babylon could go hand in hand my friends...
Mystery Babylon
Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters.    With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries...'    This title was written on her forehead:
After this passage in the book of Revelation, John records the many disasters that Mystery Babylon must suffer.
She will be punished by God and attacked by the Antichrist.
Her plagues seem to come from nature but others are undoubtedly super-natural.
With the wickedness of Mystery Babylon and the wrathful judgement that she receives in mind, and with all of God's end-times prophecies coming into clearer focus, it is important that this major subject of the book of Revelation is not ignored or misunderstood.
The identity of Mystery Babylon, the world power which precedes the kingdom of the Antichrist.

Babylon of the end-times, "Mystery Babylon," gives us a very clear description of that great power, and id a Global Superpower as a symbolic woman or harlot who sits on many waters with peoples, multitudes, nations and languages and rules over the kings of the earth, which we know as the North, East, South and West, and boasts as a queen, who is not a widow, and I will never mourn.
A global superpower in three ways- Economic Superpower
Where the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries, who weeped and mourned when when she was tormented and her spell led the nations astray.
Military Superpower
She was seen as a hammer of the earth, with a war club, to shatter nations and destroy kingdoms, and came to here end as the Lord broke the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers, struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression.
Political Superpower
The woman was the great city ruling over the kings of the earth who will see the smoke of her burning from far off and cry: 'Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power!    In one hour her doom came.
Major Port City
And those who were on a ship earning their living from the sea will weep and mourn the great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth.
Greatest and Wealthiest city the world has ever seen
They wll see the smoke of her burning of a city like this great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls, but in one hour such great wealth and splendor has been brought to ruin, and the jewel of kingdoms, the glory of the Babylonians pride, who live by many waters and rich in treasures has come to an end.
Home to a large population of Jewish Exiles
The fierce anger of the Lord told his people to come out of her, to avoid her sins and run for your lives so you do not receive any of her plagues.
Mystery Babylon is represented by a Woman
Called a great prostitute, the great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet.

So some think this is America but could also be the forming World Government.
A Global Superpower: Economically, Militarily and Politically
Yes the United States of America is the world's only surviving Superpower, and are the king of the hill in some circles. and our world uses bullying tactics of diplomacy, military force and economic sanctions, with a massive internal propaganda machine (American Media) that the USA is a force for freedom, liberty and compassion is suspect now in 2020 as we have uncovered how a Globalist Socialist Coalitions who over time in the 1900's have been developing and have duped, bamboozled, hoodwinked and led many nations astray giving away their sovereignty to a World Government system and from God's eyes it is immoral, oppressive, self-centered and arrogant, greedy and terribly self-righteous and hypocritical of what has developed as can be found in 20th Century American history.
Economic Superpower     In a 20th Century, the "merchants of the earth" are Global Corporations have a lot of power and money and under the guidance of the USA, global corporations has converted the world to the religion of materialism and fanatical consumerism with help of the US-controlled IMF, and reduced third world countries into factories to produce cheap labor and extraction of raw materials, raping the world's resources at a breakneck pace and without regard for the environment or the indigenous peoples.
New York City, where one of the 7 heads with 10 horns of the beast was attacked, is the engine that runs the economy of the world and it is the home of the majority of the world's wealthiest corporations.    New York is also the home of the World Trade Center, which was started in 1960 by David Rockefeller, and also the home of the New York Stock Exchange for rich to invest and make money and get richer or "merchants of the earth" control labor.
And here we also see the true role of the World Bank, GATT and the International Monetary Fund, as organizations created and controlled by the "merchants of the earth" and American bankers, acting in an international capacity.
Military Superpower
America does possess the world's most powerful military, but has it used it in an oppressive and aggressive manner described of Babylon in the scriptures?
America only acts militarily when vital national interests are at stake, or when democratic freedom-loving peoples are threatened by Communism or Right-wing oppressive dictatorships, or when illegal and heinous invasions of sovereign nations take place.    Most people probably presume that after America acts militarily then peace returns and democracy prevails.
The U.S. had done their deeds and bombings as the military action which is never a good thing but sometimes is necessary such as democracies were threatened, where blood-thirsty dictators carried out domestic terrorism and extreme human rights abuses, or sovereign nations were illegally invaded but many times act when our business interests are threatened, or when we can safely enter a conflict that will allow us a chance to demonstrate our weapons systems, to gain buyers for armaments made by companies like Raytheon, Texas Instruments, Textron, Northrop Grumman, MacDonnell-Douglas and Boeing.    America plays the role of International Policeman and Peacemaker, and yet our defense contractors and arms manufacturers make more deadly weapons and more profit than the arms producers of any other nation on earth.
Political Superpower
With the engine of the world's economy and possessing the world's most powerful military guarantees that America is a political superpower, so does the scriptures point Mystery Babylon possesses as we seen in the city of Babylon rules over the kings of the earth.
New York City is the home to the governing body of the Planet Earth: the United Nations, from here that deals are made, boundaries are drawn, and lives are bought and sold but the United States consistently ignored the will of the UN, and has often blatantly acted against it and opposing many UN initiatives.    The prophecies claims it is attacked by the Antichrist and his forces as seen in Revelation 17:16-18, "The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute, and they will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.    For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God's words are fulfilled."
This would be the nations of the earth throwing off the yoke that was the power of Mystery Babylon and revolting against her, turning instead to the New Age messiah, the Antichrist, and allowing him to rule over them to champion the causes of global democracy and political freedom for all, causes opposing to the foreign policy goals of American power brokers, and to be a savior for the starving masses of the Third World, and form a universal system of health care and education for all, and call for the G-7 to forgive and forget the insurmountable debt that Third World countries have accumulated due to high-interest IMF loans.    The USA and her global merchants and bankers consider this to be inconceivable.
So this entity will change America's culture of materialism, consumerism and pursuit of sensual pleasures without a regard for the consequences which ignores the spiritual and will point America out as the ultimate in hypocrisy and America will suffer the consequences.
Major Port City, Greatest and Wealthiest City, and City of Jewish Exiles
New York City is the most important port city in the world and as you enter the harbor, the name "Babylon," written on the tower in big bold letters can be easily read.    The community of Babylon is a predominantly Jewish community of over 200,000.    It has an airport and two universities, Babylon was so named by early Jewish immigrants because of their study of the scriptures and their belief that Ancient Babylon would be relocated west of the Nile.    According to my research this community is the only inhabited and functioning community in the world that is known as "Babylon."    There are more Jews living in New York City than in any other city on earth, and there are more Jews living in America than in Israel and Russia combined.    Clearly America is the home of Jewish exiles.
The wealthiest city
The fact that fully half of the world's capital is located in New York City, given the fact that the money of the IMF and the World Bank is located here, as well as the NYSE, and many other international banks, and have about 50% of the world's wealth, but only 6.3% of its population.
Mystery Babylon is represented by a woman
America's most famous landmark, the Statue of Liberty, a representation of the ancient Babylonian goddess Ishtar, whose cult promoted "the notion of personal freedom and liberty to pursue a wild hedonistic sexual lifestyle of immense promiscuity," reflecting Revelation 17:5, "...The Mother of Prostitutes..."
America's immorality of Mystery Babylon, especially the sin of "adultery," which is celebrated and promoted all over the world through our unparalleled entertainment industry and the identity of Mystery Babylon revealed through her national colors, "O great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet..."

"The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits," Revelation 17:9 (NIV).
Many have claimed the above passage try to identify end-times Babylon with the Roman Catholic Church, because Rome was built over seven hills, but the Greek word that the NIV translates as "hill" is the word hora, and more accurately interpreted by the KJV and other versions as "mountain," as the Greek word for "hill" is the word bounos and there is no reference in ancient Greek literature that describes the hills of Rome as "seven hora," and they are always referred to as "the seven bounos of Rome," and there is no precedent whatsoever to use the word hora to describe the seven hills of Rome.
The primary definition of the Greek word hora is "mountain," but it could also be used to refer to "vast expanse," "large land mass," or "continent."    The Statue of Liberty wears a seven-rayed crown, which represents the seven seas and continents of the world.
"...the great prostitute, who sits on many waters." Revelation 17:1 "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages," 17:15.
"There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that... had seven heads and ten horns." 17:3.
"The seven heads are seven hora on which the woman sits." 17:9.
I believe what is said above is valid since the 7 heads on the beast, and the ten horns with crowns are on only one of the heads and that represents the ten regions and ten rulers of the World Trade Organization and that is the World Trade Center in New York which is the head which was slain and lived.    Also the Scarlet Woman sitting on the beast is the False Religion riding on the back of the beast for protection.

YOU WOULD THINK IF MYSTERY BABYLON WAS AFFECTED BY A PANDEMIC THAT IT WOULD BE A DEFINITE STATEMENT IN PROPHECY NOT TONED DOWN
As the world has experienced a pandemic worldwide in the year 2020 and the coronavirus has killed many but there was no mention of this pestilence in all the verses, and the closest that I have been told is in:
Revelation 18:8 "Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her."    But it does not clarify that this represent that issue as valid.
Understand that Revelation 18:1-24 defines what Mystery Babylon is, which is the religious system that came from Nineveh, from the plains of Shinar (todays Iraq), where the Tower of Babel and Nimrod the mighty hunter attempted to reach the heavens and eveloped cities and this continued all the way to influence the city of Rome which brought organized False Religions to the world and to the Gentile powers and Kingdoms.    Some believe this is the European Union because of the ten horns and ignored the United States.    The Bible has Rev. 18:1-7 as it has fallen, with demons, and economics its upside or false religion; Rev. 18:7-19 is where some claim is the pandemic in verse 8 as seen above the world is experiencing in the year 2020.
"I sit as a Queen" as she is the Prostitute Woman.
    Also see:
Zephaniah 2:15 "This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand."
Isaiah 18:1 "Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:" 2 "That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!" 3 "All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear."

6/19/2020 New York City seen below is it the Mystery Babylon as it has been seen in the months of 2020 it has turned into a failed system from leaders who could not stop the devastation from the pandemic results and the aftermath of its leaders turning it into a place that has caused a mass exodus of their population because of the uncontrolled rioting, burning and looting and a change in lawlessness and if it continues it just may destroy itself.

[NOTE: IN THE MIDDLE AND TALLEST BUILDING IS THE WORLD TRADE CENTER WHICH I CLAIM IS MENTIONED IN REVELATION 13 THERE WAS A BEAST THAT CAME UP OUT OF THE SEA, THE RESTLESS NATIONS, THAT WAS FORMED INTO A GLOBALIST WORLD GOVERNMENT, WHICH HAD SEVEN HEADS (G-7) AND ONE OF THE SEVEN HEADS HAD 10 HORNS(REGIONAL POWERS)/CROWNS(RULERS) OR AS WE KNOW IT AS THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION AND IT WAS WOUNDED DEADLY IN THE HEAD ON 9/11/2001 AND IT LIVED TO RETURN ON 9/11/2011 AND YOU ARE LOOKING AT IT AND I AM NOT SURE YET WHETHER NEW YORK CITY ITSELF MAY BE THE BIBLICAL MYSTERY BABYLON SPEAKING UNGODLY THINGS TO THE WORLD.].

There is not a lot of information on the web that is valid and I found the following site at https://gracethrufaith.com/end-times-prophecy/mystery-babylon-whats-the-mystery/
It was titled Mystery Babylon ... What's The Mystery? by Jack Kelley, dated 2/14/2018.
It states since 9/11, it has been popular to identify Mystery Babylon as New York City.
    Consider, though, the following:
1.You can connect the Scriptural dots and come clearly and directly to Babylon in Iraq.
2.There's not a shred of Biblical evidence to support the New York City view.
3.There's no compelling reason to spiritualize the Biblical passages on the subject.
The above three points against this don't seem to bother those in favor of this view.
The late Dr. David L. Cooper advised, "Where the plain sense of Scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning unless the facts of the immediate text clearly indicate otherwise."    It's come to be known as the Golden Rule of interpretation.    We'll apply it to see what the Bible says about Mystery Babylon.
The first place to look is the only place it's mentioned, Revelation 17.    There the words "Mystery Babylon the Great" appear, written on the forehead of a symbolic woman seated atop a symbolic beast with seven heads and ten horns in a vision John was given.    We know they're symbolic because in the passage the angel describing them says so, and tells us what they symbolize.    This fits with Dr. Cooper's rule.
The angel explained to John that the beast symbolized Satan, who would become the object of worship in the world and manifest himself in one we call the antichrist.    The seven heads were seven hills and also seven kingdoms.    Five of these had fallen when John was writing (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, and Greece) one was currently in power (Rome) and one was still to come (hold that thought).    The ten horns were ten kings who didn't yet have a kingdom but would each receive one for the purpose of serving the antichrist and making war against the Lord.    And finally, the woman was the city that in John's time was ruling over the world.
    When In Rome ...
So far we have three references to Rome.    It sits on seven hills, it was the kingdom currently in power, and it was the city from which the world was ruled.    Most scholars accept the fact that in John's time, when the Revelation was written, the vision of the woman on the beast represented Rome, and that's why she was called Mystery Babylon.
(In the Greek language, the word we translate mystery literally means a revealed secret.    The pagan religious system first practiced in Babylon had been transplanted to Pergamus in Biblical times (see Rev. 2:12-17) but in the 4th century AD would be merged with Christianity in Rome.    That's the secret John was revealing.)
Throughout much of church history Mystery Babylon has been a euphemism for Rome.    But what about today?
The Roman Empire was never really defeated in the sense that the other ancient kingdoms were.    It was split up and parts of it were overcome, but in the 300's it was transformed into the Holy Roman Empire and for all practical purposes ruled over Europe until the 1500's.    And even after that parts of the old Roman Empire were pre-imminent in the world for a time, specifically Spain and England.
Currently the USA is the undisputed super-power, but lately, the European Union has begun challenging the USA for leadership in the world.    This turn of events is particularly interesting to prophecy buffs because of Daniel 9:26.    "After the sixty-two 'sevens, the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing.    The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.    The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed."
Those of us who believe that this portion of Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy is still in the future, knowing that the Romans destroyed the city (Jerusalem) and the sanctuary (The Temple) in 70 AD, believe that it predicts a ruler emerging from a revived Roman Empire at the end of the age.    This ruler is called the antichrist by most, who also see the European Union as a revival of the Roman Empire.    That being the case, the kingdom described to John in Rev. 17 as the one that was still to come would be the European Union, a modern version of the Roman Empire.
When the antichrist comes to power, we believe he'll divide the world into 10 regions and place a leader over each of them, hence the 10 kings loyal to him.
But Wait There's More
Seeing Rome as both the 4th and 5th kingdoms of John's vision fits with other prophecies as well.    For instance, in Daniel 2&7 we're given two views of Gentile Dominion, the time in world history when gentile powers are superior to Israel.    In both, the dream Daniel interprets in Daniel 2 and his parallel vision of monsters coming out of the sea in Daniel 7, there were only four gentile kingdoms identified from Daniel's day to the Kingdom Age.    By comparing the symbolism of the visions with what we know of history, we can identify the first one as Babylon, in power when Daniel was alive having conquered both Egypt and Assyria.    Then came the Medo-Persian Empire, followed by Greece and finally Rome.    The only kingdom after Rome is the Kingdom of our Lord, a Kingdom that will never be defeated or given to another.    So Rome is the last Gentile world power before the Lord's return.
In Nebuchadnezzar's dream (Daniel 2) of the huge poly-metallic statue that symbolized the four Gentile powers, the two legs of iron represent Rome's Eastern and Western components that ultimately became the Holy Roman Empire's Catholic and Orthodox churches.    The feet and toes of iron mixed with clay stand for the End Times Revival of the Empire and signify the problems that have plagued Europe's attempts to unite (iron and baked pottery neither mix nor adhere well) as well as the 10 regions (the toes) into which the Antichrist will divide the world.    Interestingly, it was the Treaty of Rome that in 1957 gave the European Union its beginning.    So the clear hints of the two incarnations of Rome have now been verified in history.
What's The Point?
So how does all that relate to literal Babylon?    Rev. 18 claims that in the final days the City of Babylon will once again be a world center for government, commerce, and religion and describes the worldwide distress caused by its destruction just before the Lord's return.    For years scholars, believing Babylon to have been destroyed long ago, searched for the modern city they believed the passage to be symbolizing, and many chose New York.    But during the first Gulf War, they discovered that ancient Babylon had never been destroyed in the way the Bible describes.    Further research showed that it's been continuously inhabited since the days of Nebuchadnezzar and that Saddam Hussein had expended much effort in restoring it.    More on this below.
But before we go on, let's understand a little more about why some believe Rev 18 describes New York City.    Being home to the UN it could be considered the center of world government, the New York Stock Exchange has a tremendous influence over world commerce, and of course, it's located in the USA, the most obviously Christian nation in the world today which connects it with a major religion.    And then there's the indisputable fact that having been so richly blessed, the US certainly deserves to be judged, and New York is arguably its most prominent city.
What Makes You So Great?
Biblical scholars from other countries complain that only the arrogance of Americans causes us to look for ourselves in the Bible.    Sure we're on top now, but the US is such a newcomer on the world scene, barely over 200 years old in a history that at its most conservative estimate stretches back over 6000 years.    And the battle between the city of Satan (Babylon) and the city of God (Jerusalem) had been raging for several thousand years before America was even discovered.    In a nutshell, the long view of history argues persuasively for reading Rev. 18 literally.    If so, how does Babylon get to be center stage again after so many centuries of obscurity?
He's Up In The Night
In the Book of Zechariah, a series of night visions concerning the end times occupies the first six chapters.    The one recorded in Zechariah 5 gives us the answer.    Zechariah describes being told in this vision to inspect a large basket with a lead cover.    An angel tells him the basket contains the iniquity of the people throughout the earth.    When he looks inside, he sees a woman, who the angel identifies as the symbol of their wickedness.    Then two other women, each with the wings of a stork, lift the basket and begin to fly away with it.    (According to Lev. 11:19 storks would be able to carry this load of wickedness without becoming defiled by it because they're already unclean.)
"Where are they taking the basket?" Zechariah asks.    "To the country of Babylon," the angel replies, "To build a house for it." (Literally to the plains of Shinar, the location in ancient Mesopotamia of the City of Babylon).    "When it's ready, the basket will be set there in its place." (Zech. 5:5-11).    The fact that an actual physical location is given for the basket's final destination should discourage anyone from spiritualizing that part of the passage.    Again we've applied Dr. Cooper's Golden Rule of interpretation.
Where Are They Coming From?
OK, so we know where the basket is going, but where will the stork-women be taking it from?    According to many scholars, the woman in Zechariah's basket is the woman from Rev. 17, Rome.    At the end of the age, after all its true believers have been whisked away in the Rapture, the religious system currently headquartered in Rome will be returned to Babylon from whence it came, to be absorbed into antichrist's one world religion.    (The End Times Empire will also be absorbed, but into antichrist's one world government, bringing the world's political, commercial, and religious power together under one central authority.)
Zechariah's visions followed Babylon's defeat by the Persians.    And almost from his day to ours, Babylon was a forgotten city.    Although Alexander the Great later lived and died there, his plan to dredge a big harbor to lure Persian Gulf boat traffic to Babylon was never implemented.    After his death, a natural harbor was found on the Tigris River and soon became the regional center of commerce Alexander had envisioned.    The city that grew up around this harbor was named Baghdad.    Although only about 62 miles (100 km) away, Babylon slowly faded into obscurity dwindling to as few as 10,000 inhabitants.    It was never again a center for government, commerce, and religion, but neither was it ever destroyed as Revelation 17-18, Isaiah 13-14 and Jeremiah 50-51 all prophesy.    These events are still in our future.
Babylon Re-born
As I indicated earlier, Saddam Hussein spent millions restoring ancient Babylon into a ceremonial city, perhaps unknowingly preparing it for its final role in world events.    Since the Lord is committed to doing all that He's promised (Isaiah 46:8-11), when the time is right, the basket symbolizing the world's wickedness will be set in the place prepared for it on the plains of Shinar.    And then the ancient City of Babylon will once again become the world headquarters for the three great evils of mankind's design:
1. Government: which enslaves men politically.
2. Commerce: which enslaves us economically, and
3. Religion: which enslaves us spiritually.
Does the City of New York deserve to be judged?    Absolutely, along with the rest of America, and most of the world for that matter.    But is New York the Mystery Babylon of Rev. 17-18?    I hope this article has persuaded you otherwise.    But to be sure, become a Berean and search the Scriptures daily to see whether these things be true. (Acts 17:11) 05-16-04

1/7/2020 More Americans leaving high-cost states in search of affordable living by OAN Newsroom

New York, California and Hawaii seem to have a common trend within the states; residents are leaving like never before.
In the Empire State, thousands are migrating elsewhere despite New York's booming economy and dropping unemployment rate.    A study conducted by the Empire Center for Public Policy found that nearly 76,000 people have moved away since the start of 2019.
Over on the West Coast, the U.S. Census Bureau reported more than 200,000 people moved out of California between 2018 and 2019.    This is an increasing trend in states across the country.    Experts believe there are four key factors contributing to this shift, the biggest being afford ability.
In hot spot tourist destinations like Los Angeles, Hawaii or New York City, the cost of rent is sky rocketing.    The average cost of rent for a one bedroom apartment in the Big Apple is $3,000.

Along with a high cost of living, people are also trying to leave states with high income taxes.    While money is the biggest driving force for moving out of state, there are other motivating factors too.
A recent survey found about 40 percent of respondents chose to leave their home state because of its political culture, noting their state's government does not enforce policies which line with their beliefs.
Lastly, thousands of seniors preparing for retirement are leaving their states in search of more calm and warm climates.    The top destinations for people moving are South Carolina, Florida, Delaware and Georgia.

New York City's so-called 'sanctuary policies' are under fire yet again after an illegal immigrant allegedly murdered a 92-year-old woman.    Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence spoke at a news conference on Friday and highlighted some of the key issues with the city's policies.
"A lot of these guys are repeat offenders, or violent offenders, and these cops are out there day after day putting their lives on the line," stated Albence.    "It's got to be incredibly frustrating for them to arrest these guys, knowing they're here illegally, knowing that ICE can get them off the street, and three weeks later they're arresting them again."
The director used 21-year-old Reeaz Khan as an example.    The illegal immigrant from Guyana was charged with murder and sexual assault following his attack on the 92-year-old woman.
'Make no mistake: It is this city's sanctuary policies that are the sole reason this criminal was allowed to roam the streets freely and end an innocent woman's life,' he added.

ICE stated they sent a detainer request for Khan in November after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing his father with a broken coffee mug.    The New York Police Department claimed they never received the request.    However, Albence said the department has only complied with 10 out of more than 7,500 requests made in 2019.
Multiple agencies and officials have criticized the sanctuary policies for being politically motivated and insisted they protect criminals while endangering the innocent.
Mayor Bill de Blasio continued to defend the policies and has denounced Albence's claims.    He said the director is spreading lies in an attempt to divide the city.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street fell in a broad sell-off on Friday, as investors fled equities on growing concerns over the scope of the coronavirus outbreak, capping the S&P 500's worst week in six months.
All three major U.S. stock averages turned sharply negative, with the S&P 500 seeing its biggest one-day percentage drop in over three months after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the second case of the virus on U.S. soil, this time in Chicago.
S&P 500 and Dow wrapped up their worst week since August and the Nasdaq snapped a six-week winning streak.
Market participants kept a wary eye on developments surrounding the coronavirus, which the World Health Organization (WHO) deemed 'an emergency in China,' having now killed 26 people and infected more than 800 on the eve of the Lunar New Year holiday.
'Markets hate uncertainty and the virus has been enough to inject uncertainty in the markets,' said David Carter, chief investment officer at Lenox Wealth Advisors in New York.
But some analysts believe the investors were looking for a reason to take money off the table.
'The virus is really more an excuse to take profits right now,' said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist of CFRA Research in New York.
Paul Nolte, portfolio manager at Kingsview Asset Management in Chicago, agreed.    'The markets are expensive and were looking for a reason to go down, and (the virus) is the excuse to do it.'
Intel Corp's stock surged 8.1% after reporting jumps in data center and cloud computing revenue and forecasting better-than-expected 2020 earnings.
Consumer credit company American Express Co benefited from a robust U.S. retail sales environment, posting a better-than-expected 9% annual revenue increase.    Its stock advanced 2.8%.
Fourth-quarter reporting season is well under way, with 74 companies in the S&P 500 having reported, 68.2% of which have beaten Wall Street estimates, according to Refinitiv data.
Analysts now expect earnings to have contracted by 0.5%, on aggregate, in the October to December quarter.
Next week, a swarm of closely watched results are expected, notably from Apple Inc , McDonald's Corp , Starbucks Corp , Tesla Inc , Amazon.com Inc , Boeing Co , Facebook Inc and Caterpillar Inc , among others.

Of the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, all but utilities <.SPLRCU> ended the session in the red, with healthcare <.SPXHC> and financial <.SPSY> suffering the largest percentage losses.
Broadcom Inc rose 1.3% after entering an agreement with Apple Inc for the supply of wireless components used in its products.
Rivals Skyworks Solutions and Qorvo Inc were down 4.6% and 4.5%, respectively, on the news.
Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 2.33-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 2.94-to-1 ratio favored decliners.
The S&P 500 posted 85 new 52-week highs and 5 new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 115 new highs and 62 new lows.
Volume on U.S. exchanges was 7.96 billion shares, compared with the 7.13 billion average over the last 20 trading days.

(Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes fell more than 1% on Monday as investors worried about the economic fallout of a virus outbreak in China that has prompted the country to extend the Lunar New Year holidays and businesses to close some operations.
The benchmark S&P 500 was jolted off record highs last week as China locked down several cities and curbed travel, reminding investors of the deadly SARS virus that killed nearly 800 people in 2002-03 and cost the global economy billions.
Travel-related stocks, including airlines, casinos and hotels, were the worst-hit on Wall Street, while shares of sectors exposed to China's growth, including technology, materials and energy, pressured the markets.
'We'd a strong market heading into the year and there was a little bit of over-confidence,' said Jason Pride, chief investment officer of private wealth at Glenmede in Philadelphia.
'5-10% corrections are typical for any given year in equity markets.    Maybe this time around, there is a larger economic risk posed by this outbreak because the epicenter of the outbreak (China) is exactly the reason for concern from last year.'
At 1:13 p.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average <.DJI> fell 1.26% to 28,624.77.
The S&P 500 <.SPX> dropped 1.28% to 3,253.17 and the Nasdaq Composite <.IXIC> declined 1.58% to 9,167.40. The indexes were on track to post their biggest single-day percentage loss since October.
Wall Street's fear gauge, the CBOE Volatility index <.VIX>, jumped to its highest since Oct. 10.
Technology and internet heavyweights that have powered the recent rally including Apple Inc , Microsoft Corp , Alphabet Inc and Amazon.com Inc dropped between 1.6% and 3%.
Wynn Resorts Ltd , Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd and Las Vegas Sands Corp , which have large operations in China, slid between 3.7% and 7%. The NYSE Arca Airline index <.XAL> dropped 3.8%.
Yum China Holdings Inc slid 4.3% after the company said it had temporarily closed some of its KFC and Pizza Hut stores in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.
The death toll in China rose to 81 on Monday and a small number of cases linked to people who traveled from Wuhan have been confirmed in more than 10 countries, including Thailand, France, Japan and the United States.
The rush to safe haven assets sank U.S. Treasury yields to three-month lows, putting pressure on lenders.    The S&P 500 banks index <.SPXBK> was down 1.0%. [US/]
The S&P energy index <.SPNY> dropped 2.4% as crude prices fell below $60 per barrel on fears of slowing oil demand following the outbreak. [O/R]
Defensive sectors such as consumer staples <.SPLRCS>, real estate <.SPLRCR>, healthcare <.SPXHC> and utilities <.SPLRCU> posted minimal losses.
Fourth-quarter earnings will kick into high gear this week with 141 of the S&P 500 companies, including Apple, Microsoft Corp and Boeing Co , expected to report.
No.1 U.S. homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc rose 2.2% after raising the upper end of its forecast for full-year home sales.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers for a 3.85-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and a 2.69-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq.
The S&P index recorded 17 new 52-week highs and 12 new lows, while the Nasdaq recorded 30 new highs and 84 new lows.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently announced the state is increasing cleaning protocols and launching coronavirus testing sites across the region.    On Monday, the official broke down the state's plan to counter the novel virus, which recently hit New York with its first confirmed case over the weekend.
Gov. Cuomo said officials are rolling out increased cleaning procedures in schools and the public transit system.    Additionally, designated testing centers will be opened for anyone feeling ill starting on Friday.
Above all, the Democrat encouraged all New Yorkers to continue going about their lives.    He pointed out that data shows the virus is not spread through casual contact and is not nearly as dangerous as past outbreaks.
Moving forward, officials have stressed that the single most important thing one can do is cover their coughs and sneezes.

3/3/2020 Has anyone noticed that most of the states that have coronavirus are states controlled by the Democrats except for Florida and of course also have major airports for international flights in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Miami.

The Federal Reserve made a rare inter-meeting decision to cut interest rates to counter the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.    The central bank lowered rates by 50 basis points on Tuesday to a range of one to 1.25 percent.
This decision came ahead of the bank's next formal meeting, which is set for March 18, 2020. Analysts had expected the Fed to lower rates at that meeting as the coronavirus continues to spread.
In a recent press conference, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell spoke about how the spread of the virus is beginning to impact the U.S. economy.
'We've seen it begin to spread a bit here in the United States, but for us what really matters, of course, is not the epidemiology,' he explained.    '...but the risk to the economy, so we saw a risk to the outlook for the economy and chose to act.'

Powell said the Federal Reserve is working with other central banks around the world as they continue to monitor the economic impact of the outbreak.
In a statement, the Fed noted that 'the fundamentals of the U.S. economy remain strong, however, the coronavirus poses evolving risks to economic activity.'

sharply higher on Wall Street a day after the worst drop since 1987.(AP Photo/Mark Lennihan)
Wall Street surged, following the worst single day drop since 1987's Black Friday.    All three major indexes surged more than 6 percent at Friday's open.
This rise was sparked by optimism President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have reached a deal to combat the coronavirus.    This followed a dramatic fall on Wall Street Thursday amid continued uncertainty surrounding the outbreak.
In an interview Friday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration is doing everything it can to quell investors' fears.
The yield on the 10 year treasury note also bounced back more than eight points to nearly 1 percent, which is the highest level since March 5, 2020.

President Trump has declared a national emergency as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.    During Friday's press conference at the White House, the president invoked the Stafford Act, which will free up funding to combat the virus.
'To unleash the full power of the federal government in this effort, today I am officially declaring a national emergency,' he said.    'The action I am taking will open up access to up to $50 billion for states, territories and localities in our shared fight against this disease.'
The president has asked hospitals to activate emergency preparedness plans to better handle the outbreak.    He also announced a partnership with the private sector to increase the availability of testing for COVID-19 nationwide.
There will also be drive-thru tests implemented in critical areas.    In addition to this, the coronavirus task force is looking to achieve test results within 24 hours.    Up to half a million additional tests are expected to be available as early as next week.
'This will pass through, and we will be even stronger for it,' reiterated the president.

President Trump has also pushed for a payroll tax cut, which could stave off the economic impacts of the coronavirus.    Earlier in the day, the president said this is the most meaningful way to get money into the hands of Americans quickly and efficiently.
He added American workers should get the full money they deserve.    During his address to the nation earlier this week, he called on lawmakers to help make this happen.
'I'm calling on Congress to provide Americans with immediate payroll tax relief,' stated President Trump.    'Hopefully, they will consider this very strongly.'
He added the payroll tax cut should last until the end of the year.

This followed a call between the governor and the president in which Cuomo petitioned for federal assistance in handling the spike in coronavirus cases in New York.    The New York governor called the president '100 percent sincere' and praised his team's ability to deal with the threat.
'His team is on it, they've been responsive late at night, early in the morning, and they've thus far been doing everything that they can do,' he stated.    'And I want to say thank you.'
Cuomo also contradicted claims that plans exist to quarantine New York City.    He noted that such a move would require state approval.

New York is officially under a disaster declaration.    The Trump administration approved the move Friday, which allowed FEMA officials to begin funneling money directly to the state's coronavirus relief efforts.
New York's health facilities continue to be overloaded with patients, to the point state officials have said they expect to run out of ventilators and may soon run out of ICU beds.
This was the government's first major disaster declaration issued as a result of the coronavirus.    According to state and local officials, the federal funding will provide much needed supplies and relief.
'I hate to say this, but it's true. We are now the epicenter of this crisis, right here in the nation's largest city.    It's going to be a new reality in this city, and we have to understand that this is something that is absolutely necessary.    I want to say to my fellow New Yorkers, none of us asked for the coronavirus, to say the least, none of us expected the coronavirus.' - Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City
As of Saturday, the state of New York had more than 5,100 confirmed cases of the virus.

Meanwhile, state Governor Andrew Cuomo has said he's working on every level necessary to combat this pandemic.    On Saturday, Cuomo confirmed the state will soon conduct trials for a new drug therapy, which will involve 10,000 doses of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine.
According to new reports, hospitals across the country have been stockpiling the drug, which was recently touted by President Trump.
Cuomo also announced there will be a reconfiguration of space
hospital space, somewhere between 50,000 and 75,000 beds, and the addition of new staff.
New York has also been working to purchase more medical ventilators, along with 1 million N95 masks.

President Trump has approved the governor of California's request to deploy a U.S. Navy hospital ship to Los Angeles.
On Sunday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the plan to send the USNS Mercy to the state's most populous city.    He also thanked the president for his quick response.    The vessel will provide extra support amid the surge of coronavirus patients.
Meanwhile, the USNS Comfort is being sent to the New York City area.    Both states have seen increased numbers of virus cases and have issued shelter-in-place orders to stop the spread of the virus.
Gov. Newsom recently sent a harsh message to his state's youth.    During a COVID-19 response update the California official made the following remarks:
'Just assume that you potentially are contagious and act accordingly.    Socially distance yourself from others, just use common sense.    Be a good neighbor, be a good citizen.    To the young people who are still out there on the beaches thinking this is a party - it's time to grow up, it's time to wake up.'

His comments comes after massive crowds reportedly continued to flock to beaches and parks despite an ongoing shelter-in-place order.    Beachgoers in Huntington Beach eventually went home as National Guard troops arrived.
Meanwhile, the mayor of San Diego has now closed its beaches and has threatened a $1,000 for anyone who continues to violate the emergency order.

New York officials are calling for the White House to nationalize the effort to acquire more medical supplies amid the coronavirus outbreak.
On Sunday, Mayor Bill De Blasio said the outbreak will get worse with damage accelerated by a lack of medical supplies.
Additionally, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested the government order factories to manufacture masks and other essential equipment.
This came after hospitals reported declining stockpiles needed to treat patients.    Mayor De Blasio said New York City is just days away from seeing widespread shortages.
'It's only getting worse and, in fact, April and May are going to be a lot worse,' he stated.    'Right now, we are a third of the cases in the country; that's going to get worse.'
The state of New York now accounts for about 5 percent of COVID-19 cases worldwide.

3/30/2020 U.S. Navy hospital ship arrives in N.Y. by OAN Newsroom

that could be up and running within 24 hours of its arrival on Monday morning. It's expected to bolster a besieged health
care system by treating non-coronavirus patients while hospitals treat people with COVID-19. (AP Photo/Bebeto Matthew)
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio rejoiced upon the arrival of the USNS Comfort in New York Harbor on Monday.    The ship brought medical staff as well as additional supplies to the city amid the coronavirus pandemic.
'There could not be a better example of all of America pulling for New York City tan the arrival of the USNS Comfort,' said the mayor.
The hospital ship will help lighten the burden on New York City's medical community by treating patients who don't have coronavirus aboard the ship.    This will help free up space in local hospitals as they deal with a surge in COVID-19 cases.
President Trump sent off the ship from Norfolk, Virginia over the weekend.    He noted that the vessel has the some of finest doctors, nurses and technicians in the world.
'We will stop at nothing to protect the health of New Yorkers and the health of the people of our country in their hour of need,' stated the president.
The floating hospital includes 1,200 medical personnel, 1,000 hospital beds, multiple operating rooms and much needed supplies.    De Blasio said 750 beds will be put to use immediately to relieve the pressure on the hospital system.
'We needed this boost, we needed this hope that's being created by our brothers and sisters in the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps,' he stated.    'Everyone who is here to help us at this crucial moment.'

The mayor said the city needs to triple its hospital bed capacity by May and noted that it's received a big boost from the USNS Comfort.     He went on to thank President Trump, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps as well as FEMA for making this all possible.
De Blasio said the ship is not just about help arriving in a physical form, but it's also about hope and boosting morale as New Yorkers go through tough times.

According to the governor of New York, President Trump has been very helpful as the state becomes the epicenter of the ongoing pandemic.
'The president has been very helpful, the (USNS) Comfort has been very helpful.    The Javits Center, 2,500 beds...the Army Corps of Engineers did a phenomenal job.    It was like in one week, they came into the Javits Center, built an entire field hospital and they're staffing it.' - Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York
Last month, the president activated the National Guard in California, New York and Washington state.    He also deployed 1,000 medical military personnel to New York City.     At the same time, President Trump recognized the efforts of multiple state leaders, including Cuomo, who ensured the delivery of needed medical supplies to hospitals and provided more beds for patients.

The president also applauded Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards for doing a good job protecting residents.
All three governors have enacted stay-at-home measures to stop the virus from spreading. California and New York have also canceled school for the rest of the academic year.    Edwards has said he is considering following similar measures, as Louisiana students are scheduled to return in May.
According to health officials, social distancing measures are having a positive impact, but the country has yet to experience its peak in COVID-19 cases.

Earlier this week, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's office confirmed 1,500 inmates had been released from city jails in response to the coronavirus.    Yet, according to police sources, at least 50 of those inmates have already committed new crimes and landed back behind bars.
This dramatic reduction in the inmate population has irked elected leaders and those in the police department, who claimed reoffenders are taking full advantage of the pandemic.
'What we are seeing is criminals exploiting a pandemic,' stated Assemblyman Mike LiPetri (R-N.Y.).    'We should be focusing on law abiding Americans, rather than focusing on releasing criminals back into our communities.'
31-year-old Bronx resident Daeshawn Sharperson was initially jailed for setting his girlfriend's home on fire, and received a four-month sentence.    However, his sentence was cut short after he and about 100 other inmates were released early.
Roughly a week later, police records showed Sharperson returned to the apartment and allegedly threatened to kill the entire family.

According to LiPetri, a more viable solution would have been to isolate high risk prisoners.    He argued many prisoners had no signs, symptoms or any real risk of contracting the virus.
'There are plenty of vacant buildings now, especially in New York City, that could be used to house those that are specifically vulnerable for medical reasons.    Not those that are trying to exploit the situation, but rather, those that are truly at a health risk.    You can isolate those individuals in different buildings, separate from the jails, that can still be monitored while maintaining social distancing.' - Mike LiPetri, New York Assemblyman
At least a dozen additional states in the U.S. have released inmates as the crisis has progressed.

A new study has suggested New Yorkers could be the cause of a second wave of coronavirus outbreaks.
According to the New York Times Thursday, researchers who track the genetic makeup of the virus have said the high number of cases in the U.S. comes from domestic spread.
Researchers believe many New Yorkers fled the Big Apple in March after news broke about a mandatory shutdown in the city.    According to a scientist from the Yale School of Public Health, between 60 and 65 percent of all cases in the U.S. can be traced back to New York.
City leaders had come under fire in recent months for not taking action sooner.    Some argue that had those protective measures been enacted earlier, the spread of the virus could have been less severe.

The report also analyzed cell phone data from several coronavirus hotspots around the nation, which showed a rise of cases in areas that saw an influx in visitors from New York. Meanwhile, state officials have yet to speak out on these findings.
[THIS WAS NOTHING NEW SINCE ANYONE WHO WOULD CHECK IT OUT WOULD SEE THAT WHERE EVER THERE WAS AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT THAT BECAME THE EPICENTER OF THE CORONAVIRUS AND THE 'ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK' WAS THE SAME THAT WOULD BE FOUND IN ALL SUCH CITIES AND IS STILL TRUE TODAY.    I LIVE IN KENTUCKY AND THE MAJORITY OF ALL DEATHS ARE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, WHICH IS LOUISVILLE WHICH HAS A MAJOR AIRPORT AS FLIGHTS ARRIVED FROM ITALY, GERMANY, ETC.     Health officials are tallying up the coronavirus death toll in New York City and are finding it significantly exceeds initial predictions.    The CDC released a report Monday stating that they identified around 24,000 more deaths than originally recorded by local health authorities.
'And when you see the number of lives lost, again, we're right about where we started before we really went into the the heart of the crisis,' stated New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).    'And that's what it's been, it's been a crisis.'
CDC officials said nearly 14,000 of the excess deaths were confirmed to have had symptoms of the virus and more than 5,000 were put in a category indicating they 'probably' succumbed to COVID-19.
The remaining number, accounting for nearly 5,300 victims, were asymptomatic and were believed to have been either directly or indirectly infected.
Researchers warned that demand on health care providers and hospitals may be an obstacle for people in dire need of lifesaving care.    They advised accounting for all causes of death during the crisis provides a more accurate measure of the death toll by accounting for deaths beyond lab confirmation.

Analysts believe a slew of factors contributed to the death toll miscount, including the availability of testing, contracting the disease after testing negative and dying outside of a health care setting.
Meanwhile, state officials are preparing to reopen less affected areas in Upstate New York when the statewide stay-at-home order expires on Friday.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio may begin reopening non-essential businesses as soon as June.
'So, I think it's fair to say that June is when we're potentially going to be able to make some real changes if we can continue our progress,' he stated.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has doubled down on his office's handling of elderly COVID-19 patients.    On Saturday, the governor said he was following orders from the Trump administration when he put over 4,500 senior coronavirus patients in nursing homes.
He noted he understands the controversy behind the decision, but claimed he isn't trying to politicize the move.
'New York followed the president's agency's guidance, so that depoliticizes it,' stated Cuomo.    'What New York did was follow what the Republican administration said to do.'
Over 3,000 virus patients died in nursing homes under this policy.    Critics have suggested the governor is unfairly placing blame on President Trump.

Earlier this week, state assembly member Ron Kim urged the governor to acknowledge 'it was a mistake' to let nursing homes accept coronavirus positive patients. Kim said Cuomo's decision ended up costing thousands of lives.
'I was absolutely shocked that the state of New York sent so many people back to nursing homes, when nursing homes aren't hospitals,' he said.    'These are COVID positive patients that should have been treated at hospitals or other facilities that were equipped to take them in.'
According to Kim, it would be helpful to those who lost loved ones to see Cuomo step up and admit the state's wrongdoing.

State officials in New York have ramped up law enforcement efforts to combat the violent protests against police brutality.    On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the 'National Guard is on standby,' as well as state police, for communities overwhelmed by rioters and looters.
He has called the ongoing destruction an 'ugly situation,' but added he sympathizes with Americans' 'outrage' over George Floyd's death.

As protests escalated in New York City, mobs of people took to Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood to break into several high-end stores.
Dozens of people were seen smashing windows and stealing items from luxury businesses like Chanel, Coach, Gucci and Versace.    Small fires burned in the streets, which were covered with glass and garbage.     Some protesters condemned the looting, while others felt there were legitimate reasons for the vandalism and theft.
At least one person was shot amid the chaos and was treated in an ambulance.    Police also arrested several suspected looters as they tried to flee the scene.    Other New York City neighborhoods were also targeted by looters, but SoHo appeared to be hit the hardest.

Protesters are calling for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to step down.    Thousands took to the streets of Manhattan for the eighth consecutive night Tuesday over the death of George Floyd.    Some took the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction for political leaders.
This comes as New York Black Lives Matter President Hawk Newsome blasted de Blasio for mishandling instances of police brutality.
'Bill de Blasio has failed black New York time and time again, and it is my firm belief that if Bill de Blasio would've handled the Eric Garner murder correctly...it would have set a nation precedent, it would have set a nation standard,' he stated.
Eric Garner's case sparked massive protests in 2014 after the unarmed black man was killed during an arrest.    Activists are blaming the Democrat mayor by saying it wasn't enough that the NYPD officer involved was only removed from his position five years after the fact.
Meanwhile, the de Blasio is also facing pressure from his own police force.    On Tuesday, the head of the NYPD Sergeants Association, Ed Mullins, spoke about the riots.    He said the department is losing the city.
Mullins went on to call on President Trump to send federal personnel because de Blasio is 'not letting them do their jobs.'    De Blasio has rejected bringing in the National Guard and has, instead, opted to extend an 8 p.m. curfew throughout the week.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has extended New York City's curfew amid ongoing looting and riots in the area.    On Wednesday, he announced the city's initial curfew will be extended into the next week and may be lifted as appropriate if the violence subsides.
De Blasio also made the curfew stricter, bringing it down from 11 p.m. to 8 p.m.
'The plan is Sunday night into Monday morning, 5:00 a.m.,' he said.    'Monday morning, curfew comes off.'

The mayor has called on police to exercise self-restraint and encouraged rioters to abandon violence.
'The NYPD respecting the police, the peaceful protest.    We saw a few incidents where people decide to do something illegal or violent right around the protest, but that was rare.    We saw some acts in different boroughs of people attempting to attack property.    NYPD was positioned to address that rapidly.' - Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City
De Blasio also confirmed local businesses will now be allowed to reopen, as he's shifting focus away from coronavirus to the latest tensions.

6/5/2020 N.Y. bail reform laws prevent looters from being held by police by OAN Newsroom

Prosecutors in New York City are expressing frustration with how quickly some of those arrested during the violent riots in the city have been turned back onto the street.
According to reports, hundreds have been arrested for rioting and looting in recent demonstrations, which were sparked by the death of George Floyd.    However, many have been immediately released due to the state's unusual bail reform law.
The law, which was enacted earlier this year, eliminated the bail requirement for suspects accused of most misdemeanors, including burglary.
The NYPD has stated groups of anarchists are targeting upscale stores, particularly in lower and midtown Manhattan.    However, police have been unable to hold them, since they were charged with crimes ineligible for bail under the reform.

with a baseball bat, in St. Paul, Minn. (AP Photo/John Minchillo, File)
On Thursday, the governor of New York claimed looters are exploiting the protests because they know police are going to be busy with the actual protesters.
'It would be nonsensical if the police were arresting looters, (who) were then being arrested and returned to the street the next day to loot again,' said Andrew Cuomo. 'That would be nonsensical, right?'
He called on prosecutors to seek charges of second-degree burglary, or burglary involving a 'dangerous instrument' like a pipe or a brick.    According to Cuomo, if looters are using rocks to break windows and steal, they should be charged for the crime they're committing and have bail set.
Prosecutors, however, are split on the legal standing to bring second-degree charges against the looters.    Some have said most of the looting cases can't be charged with that crime.
They argued rocks and bricks aren't considered 'deadly weapons.'    They also noted there's a lack of evidence that using them to break store windows has put anyone in danger of serious injury.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance agreed that looters should face harsher penalties.    He has asked for the legislature to change the bail reform law and for Cuomo to use emergency powers to allow judges to hold looters on bail.
'This is about people who are taking advantage of this moment, when people want to come out and protest peacefully,' stated Vance.     'I'm calling for more judicial discretion, to have the judge have the ability to detain someone when there is a clear risk of re-offense.'
Under bail reform, suspects of violent felonies are still required to post bail.
However, even before the law was adopted, New York law prevented judges from considering some suspects as potential dangers to the community before setting bail.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza has explained the movement's 'defund the police' campaign.
During a recent interview, Garza said the message is not to eliminate police departments, but to invest money in other resources necessary to African American communities.
She argued cities need to reorganize their priorities so people don't have to protest during a global pandemic.
'What we do need is increased funding for housing, education, quality of life of communities who are over-policed and over-surveilled,' stated Garza.    'You know, I heard Sen. Booker earlier say, 'You know, it's not a phrase I would use, but I agree with the content.''
Garza believes a change to our practices will lead to a better quality of life for everyone.

BLM claims inspiration from the civil rights movement, the Black Power movement, the 1980s Black feminist movement, pan-Africanism, the Anti-Apartheid Movement, hip hop, LGBTQ social movements, and Occupy Wall Street.    Several media organizations have referred to BLM as "a new civil rights movement."    Some of the protesters, however, actively distinguish themselves from the older generation of black leadership, such as Al Sharpton, by their aversion to middle-class traditions such as church involvement, Democratic Party loyalty, and respectability politics.    Political scientist Frederick C. Harris has argued that this "group-centered model of leadership" is distinct from the older charismatic leadership model that characterized civil rights organizations like Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Sharpton's National Action Network.
In 2013, the movement began with the use of the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin in February 2012.    The movement became nationally recognized for street demonstrations following the 2014 deaths of two African Americans: Michael Brown-resulting in protests and unrest in Ferguson, a city near St. Louis-and Eric Garner in New York City.    Since the Ferguson protests, participants in the movement have demonstrated against the deaths of numerous other African Americans by police actions and/or while in police custody.    In the summer of 2015, Black Lives Matter activists became involved in the 2016 United States presidential election.    The originators of the hashtag and call to action, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, expanded their project into a national network of over 30 local chapters between 2014 and 2016.    The overall Black Lives Matter movement, however, is a decentralized network and has no formal hierarchy.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced plans to cut the budget of the New York Police Department (NYPD) and reform police practices.    On Sunday, the Democrat official said he will cut funding from the NYPD and allocate the money to youth and social services.
As for reforms, the mayor said the city will establish civilian agencies to handle vendor and administrative enforcement, but de Blasio claimed he will not neglect public safety.
'But I want people to understand that we are committed to shifting resources to ensure that the focus is on our young people,' he explained.    'And I also will affirm, while doing that, we will only do it in a way that we are certain continues to ensure that this city will be safe.'
Mayor de Blasio stressed the first round of budget cuts, expected within the coming weeks, will begin an 18 month reform process.

6/11/2020 N.Y. Police Benevolent Association President: 'We are being portrayed as the enemy' by OAN Newsroom

Minneapolis. The focus of the meeting was the defunding of the Minneapolis Police Department. (Jerry Holt/Star Tribune via AP)
According to the head of the Police Benevolent Association of the city of New York, the mainstream media is twisting the narrative to make police look as bad as possible.
Association President Mike O'Meara unleashed a blistering statement to the press Tuesday, where he accused largely left-leaning outlets of turning law enforcement into the 'boogeyman.'
O'Meara said its not fair for 99 percent of officers 'who act honorably every day' to be punished for the misdeeds of the one-percent who act outside the line of duty.
The association president also ripped Democrat lawmakers who have, in his opinion, turned on law enforcement in the wake of George Floyd's death in the interest of keeping liberal constituents happy.    This includes lawmakers like congresswoman Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez.
'I'm asking you to ask yourself :what are you willing to sacrifice to make sure that over-funded police departments are defunded?' she asked.
Democrats have rallied behind the movement to defund police departments across the nation.    Earlier this week House lawmakers unveiled a bill meant to help reduce police brutality, which includes clauses to limit the use of deadly force and give the Justice Department power to subpoena local police departments.
Republicans are reportedly pushing their own version of the bill, which focuses more on anti-lynching legislation and proposals to review the legality of no-knock warrants.

6/12/2020 Gov. Cuomo threatens to withhold municipal funds unless action is taken to reform police departments by OAN Newsroom

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has threatened legislative action in hopes of forcing local governments to take action to reform their police departments.    On Friday, Cuomo announced he would sign an executive order mandating municipalities 'reinvent and modernize' their departments by the end of April 2021.
Failure to do so would make these local governments ineligible for state funding.    Around 500 police departments will likely be affected.
According to the governor, linking funds to 'systemic reform' is the only way to achieve dramatic results.
'There is no trust, there is a breach of the trust, and that has to be restored and repaired,' he stated.    'The only way to do it is to get in a room, get to the table, let everyone say their piece and figure it out community by community, all across this state.'
Cuomo also signed a bill earlier in the day, which repealed a decades-old law shielding a police officer's disciplinary record from the public.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Opal Tometi is reportedly connected to the Maduro regime.    A picture of Tometi hugging the Venezuelan dictator surfaced on Thursday.
The photo in question was taken in Harlem at the 2015 People of African Descent Leadership Summit.    At the time, Maduro was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
Tometi also shared some thoughts at the summit, where she thanked Maduro and his government for having her.    During her speech, she condemned the 'western economic policies, land grabs and neocolonial financial instruments like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.'
That same year, Tometi was in the socialist South American country when she tweeted:
Police brutality, one of the atrocities the Black Lives Matter movement stands against, has plagued Venezuela in the years since Maduro took power back in 2013.    Since then, more than 4.5 million people have fled Venezuela.
In 2018 alone, Breitbart reported nearly 1,500 minors were killed at the hands of the police.    Venezuelan police under Maduro are reported to have imprisoned and murdered a countless number of protesters and political opponents.
Tometi has not commented on the brutality in Venezuela, but remains a vocal critic of so-called police brutality in America.
'But people from all walks of life are looking around and saying, this is not the type of country I want to live in.    I am tired.    I don't want to be part of a society that allows unarmed black people to be killed every single day by police.' - Opal Tometi, co-founder - Black Lives Matter
This follows a recently circulated video showing another Black Lives Matter co-founder, Patrisse Cullors, stating that the movement holds a Marxist ideology.
'We actually do have an ideological frame, myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers,' said Cullors.    'We are trained Marxists.'

According to new data, New York City eateries are suffering major financial hardship due to ongoing coronavirus shutdown orders.    A recent survey showed 80% of restaurants in the city were unable to pay their full month's rent in June, while 36% failed to pay any rent at all.
This week, Mayor Bill de Blasio delayed the reopening of indoor dining following a rise in coronavirus cases.
'Indoor dining is delayed, but we will continue to work towards recovery,' he said.    'The greatest restaurant city in the world will find a way.'

Some residents have expressed opposition to the delay.
'I feel as though it's not fair due to the fact that, like, a lot of people have been practicing social distancing.    From what I see, a lot people still wearing their masks, they're still keeping up with the rules that we should follow.    So, I would say you should open it up, but keep it limited in a way.    The same way that they keep, like, takeout limited, like certain people inside or a certain amount.' - Adanna Dixon, New York resident
While food establishments have been allowed to serve carryout and provide outdoor dining, owners argued this does not bring in enough profit to cover their expenses.    Many restaurants have been forced to close their doors for good.

7/9/2020 NYPD Overwhelmed By Officers Filing For Retirement by OAN Newsroom

The NYPD has sounded the alarm as the number of officers filing for retirement skyrocketed amid protests and a surge in shootings.    On Wednesday, the department reported that 179 officers filed for retirement last week, which was a 411% increase from the same time last year.
Officers cited a lack of respect, increased violence and the loss of overtime pay due to Mayor Bill de Blasio's decision to cut $1 billion from the police budget.
Experts also blamed growing anti-police sentiment.
'Police reform seems to be the echoing sentiment, so as a result, police officers seem to be the kicking board, so to speak,' explained former Lieutenant Darrin Porcher.    'People are taking out their animosity on officers on a national level, not just the officers who were associated with the death of George Floyd.'
According to a spokeswoman for the department, they are overwhelmed, but they are not turning down any applications.    They have instead asked officers to come back at a future date.

Joe Biden said police are over-militarized and have 'now become the enemy.'    During an interview with progressive activist Ady Barkan Wednesday, the former vice president appeared to change his stance on police funding.
Biden said he would support allocating department funds to other programs.    This comes just three weeks after he proposed more funding to police in an op-ed in which he called for an additional $300 million for police to introduce 'more diverse officers, a national use of force standard and more body cams.'
The presumptive 2020 Democrat presidential nominee then said a surplus of certain equipment for police has led to them become the enemy in communities.
Meanwhile, Biden's campaign denied the candidate changed his position on the matter by reiterating he does not support defunding the police.    However, they stressed Biden does 'think conditions should be placed upon them' and that certain departments should take significant reforms.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed the recent increase in crime in New York City may be due to residents' lack of resources.
During a virtual Town Hall meeting Thursday, she said the high records of unemployment may lead to people shoplifting. New York City has reported a rise in crimes in recent weeks following ongoing national protests and calls to defund police departments.
Ocasio-Cortez noted the up-tick in crime came even before the mayor enacted a police budget cut.    She said people are committing more crimes out of desperation.
'Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren't paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent, and so they go out and they need to feed their child and they don't have money,' stated the New York representative.    'So, they're put in a position where they feel like they need to shoplift some bread or go hungry that night.'
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed the recent rise in crime is due to multiple factors.

7/15/2020 Gov. Cuomo Blasted For Nursing Home Report by OAN Newsroom

coronavirus news conference at his office in New York. (John Roca/New York Post via AP, Pool, File)
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) has come under fire for a recently released internal report, which appears to sweep a controversial executive order under the rug.
Scientists and medical experts spoke with the Associated Press Tuesday and claimed the report downplayed the effects of the order, which placed more than 63,000 recovering coronavirus patients in nursing homes.
Some experts have said the report was designed to confirm a theory they believe was floated by Cuomo, which blamed 37,000 asymptomatic nursing home workers for a surge in coronavirus related deaths.    When questioned about these deaths, the governor said critics were using the numbers to play politics.
'So let's look at the facts, right, rather than the political rhetoric,' he stated.    'Yes, we had more people die in nursing homes than anywhere else...because the federal government missed the boat.'
The report indicated that 80 percent of nursing homes who took in patients already had coronavirus cases before the order was given.    It also explained that patients were released within nine days of entering the nursing homes and claimed patients shed contagion within the time-frame.
However, experts have said there are several holes in these findings.    They pointed out a lack of data on nursing homes that did not have any cases pre-executive order. They also cannot confirm if released patients were contagious or not because the order barred nursing home staffers from retesting patients.
'I don't think there's a person in this state not asking: what the heck is going on in our nursing homes?' said state Sen. Patrick Gallivan (D-N.Y.).    'It's probably likely that legislatures should have been looking into nursing homes long before this, but clearly they need to be looked at.'
Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers are demanding Cuomo turnover information on the executive order and its effects on the public.    Both chambers of New York's legislature are expected to hold joint hearings on the issue next month.

New surveillance footage appears to show a group of protesters receiving a small shipment of wooden bats right before anti-police demonstrators attacked officers on the Brooklyn Bridge.
The New York Post released video showing a man near New York City Hall retrieving at least six bats from a car's trunk Wednesday morning.
According to police sources, the bats were used to confront the ‘Unity Rally' taking place, which included community activists, clergy and law enforcement calling for the end of violence in the city as well as a need for dialogue about racial injustice and police reform.
'We support police and we need their help because this city's becoming a warzone,' stated Tamara Lashchyk, a Unity March demonstrator.
'The police are here to help us not to hurt us, so we need people to come out and report these shootings,'said Clyde Jasmin, another demonstrator. 'And report these senseless violence and hopefully we get our city back.'
When activists from the Unity March made their way across Brooklyn Bridge, they were soon met by several counter-protesters who were arguing that their march was too supportive of police.
Police soon began to clear out these counter-protesters when several began to attack.    Several officers present were injured, including the city's police chief.    Nearly 40 counter-protesters were arrested.

'They didn't want a counter-protest, they didn't want democracy, they didn't want freedom in this moment,' said Jonathan Lykes, an anti-police protester.
It's unclear if they used the shipment of bats appearing in footage in the Brooklyn Bridge attack, however, police have said at least one has been recovered from the scene. Meanwhile, separate footage shows the activists using a cane and debris to hit officers.
The latest violence in New York City adds to the continued calls for the removal of Mayor Bill de Blasio as many have said he's failed to put a stop to the city's escalating violence.
'Andrew Cuomo really needs to step in and take control of the city,' stated Ed Mullins of the Sergeants Benevolent Association.    'The city needs law and order, it's unfair bodies are dropping in these communities.'
This comes as de Blasio signed a series of police reform bills on Wednesday and made no mention of the Brooklyn Bridge incident.

Out-of-state travelers arriving in the tri-state area must self-quarantine for 14 days.    The city has also been working with tourism and transportation companies to ensure travelers fill out the proper forms.
Governor Andrew Cuomo's mandate applies to 34 states and Puerto Rico, which have been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

'This is serious stuff, and it's time for everyone to realize it,' stated the mayor.    'If we're going to hold at this level of health and safety in the city, we have to deal with the fact that quarantine must be applied consistently to anyone who has traveled.'

New York is attempting to dissolve the National Rifle Association following investigations of fraud within the organization.
On Thursday, Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against the NRA. The filing claimed the association had misused upwards of $64 million for personal gain and awarded contracts to friends with special permissions.
President Trump has since commented on the lawsuit.    He suggested the NRA move their operations to Texas.
'I just heard about that.    That's a very terrible thing that just happened.    I think the NRA should move to Texas and lead a very good and beautiful life.    ...This has been going on for a long time.    They've been absolutely decimated by the cost of that lawsuit, and it's very sad, but I would suggest that is what they should be doing.' - Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States
On Twitter, he added the 'radical left New York is trying to destroy the NRA.'
Meanwhile, the president of the NRA has dismissed the suit as a 'baseless, premeditated attack on the organization and the Second Amendment.'

New York City has seen a colossal spike in violent crime.    This past weekend's crime rate increased 600 percent compared to the same time last year and experts believe calls to dismantle the police are contributing to that statistic.
The issue has gotten so out of hand it prompted President Trump to tweet this late Sunday:
However, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio, it's the president that's the issue.    The Democrat said he won't be relying on the White House to solve New York's crime problem.
'The president blusters and the president tries to draw attention to himself, and rarely has much to back it up,' claimed de Blasio.    'The bottom line is the NYPD is obviously, as they have done for decades upon decades, they are the people who can help us address this issue and end this violence.'

Gov. Cuomo took heat Monday after commenting ahead of the weekend that President Trump was liable for some of the violence in the city.
'The genesis of the crime you can have a great debate about, but the Trump economy, Trump not providing COVID relief, George Floyd's murder, Trump's response to the George Floyd murder, race relation stress...so, I think Trump has some liability for the increase in crime,' he stated.
Those comments didn't age well after the city saw 43 people injured in 32 separate incidents throughout the weekend.    In light of the weekend violence, conservative New Yorkers turned up the heat on Cuomo for denying the president's offer to send in federal agents to quell unrest in the city in late July.
Looking forward to November, the president appears intent to capitalize off of the spike in crime and New York's sky-high taxes in a bid to turn the state red in November.

Democrats have continued to skirt around the rise in violent crime in American cities, which are being committed by groups claiming to be part of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The past three days have been filled with DNC speakers pointing fingers at President Trump for his coronavirus response, while ignoring the growing violence in Democrat-run cities.
Just one day before the event began, a man was nearly killed in Portland and not one speaker offered sympathy to him or victims like him in Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis or New York City.
Instead, lawmakers like Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D) have been accused of stoking unrest in a bid to hurt the president's reelection campaign.
'I'm looking to the public, you know, this is as much about public outcry and organizing and mobilizing and applying pressure so that this GOP-led Senate and that these governors that continue to carry water for this administration...hold them accountable.'
When Democrats began calling to defund police, Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden said he was absolutely on board.    However, his campaign has since distanced itself from that movement as multiple police unions have begun to endorse President Trump.

8/20/2020 Report: N.Y. Underreporting Nursing Home Deaths by OAN Newsroom

New York has been accused of underreporting the number of nursing home coronavirus deaths in the state.    According to a report by the Associated Press, the state could be misreporting its data by the thousands.
Since the start of the pandemic, the state has reported more than 6,600 deaths in state care facilities.    However, analysts believe that number is actually higher.
The state's governor responded to these findings on Wednesday.    Andrew Cuomo has claimed the number is lower because many residents did not die on nursing home properties.
According to him, if a person from a nursing home was transported to a hospital where they later died, that was counted as a hospital death and not nursing home related.
Cuomo has come under fire during the course of the pandemic.

the Democratic National Convention on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. (Democratic National Convention via AP)
President Trump criticized the governor on Twitter this week, where he called him both crooked and incompetent.    The president also blamed him for the high number of deaths in the state.
State lawmakers have also spoken out against the governor.    They accused him of sharing these numbers to appear he is handling the nursing home crisis better than other states.
They also accused him of being more concerned with promoting his new book about the pandemic than actually responding to the coronavirus.
New York has the highest number of COVID-19 related deaths in the U.S.

Hundreds of residents in New York City have called for Mayor Bill de Blasio to step down.    'Save Our City' demonstrations took place outside of City Hall on Saturday, where some 300 protesters gathered to speak out against the mayor's actions during his time in office.
Several key speakers made appearances, including the Police Benevolence Association Vice President Vinny Vallelong and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis.
According to Vallelong, de Blasio has gone through three police commissioners, while murders, burglaries and instances of grand larceny have skyrocketed in the area.    He claimed the mayor still has failed to take any effective action.
Meanwhile, Malliotakis alleged the city is being torn apart both by de Blasio's actions and his lack thereof.
'It breaks my heart to see what our mayor is doing on every front,' she said.    'He puts more and more money into the budget, he raises your property taxes, and yet, everything is getting worse.'

She went on to slam the mayor's inaction on reopening restaurants and other businesses, which she called an attack on America's values.
'The anarchy, the lawlessness, the attacks on job creators: this is an attempt to bring socialism to our nation,' added Malliotakis.    'We reject it.'
Mayor Bill de Blasio has stated there will be no deadline for reopening businesses, such as indoor dining, until the city sees major improvements.
His comments came after New York City restaurant owners demanded the city reopen in-person dining to keep businesses afloat.

Unemployed New Yorkers are dealing with long waits to receive food as the coronavirus pandemic leaves thousands without work.    The line for the La Jornada Food Pantry in Queens reached more than a quarter mile long on Saturday.
La Jornada usually serves roughly 1,000 families a week, but that number has now skyrocketed to 10,000 amid increased unemployment rates due to the ongoing pandemic.    The food pantry is struggling to cope with the influx of demand.
'The most important thing we need is that we need the government to help us with the conventional garbage and things like that we didn't think before that was important, but now is becoming more and more important,' explained Pedro Rodriquez, founder and executive director of La Jornada Food Pantry.    'When you feed 10,000 people you can need a lot.'
Several other food banks across the city are facing similar struggles and the Food Bank For New York estimated it has increased overall distribution by more than 20-percent.

9/3/2020 President Trump Issues Memo Looking To Defund Cities That Allow 'Anarchist' Activities by OAN Newsroom

President Trump said he's looking to cut federal funding to so-called "anarchist jurisdictions" by defunding cities that have allowed a loss of law and order.    He's ordered the federal government to start pulling back on funds for four U.S. cities.
Reports Wednesday detailed a five page memo by the president in which he ordered all federal agencies to report to the White House Office of Management and Budget for a detail on funds that can be redirected.
The cities targeted by the move include New York City, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C. According to President Trump in the memo, his administration "will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones."
The president touched on the issue in a Tweet Wednesday and tagged White House Budget Director Russ Vought.
The memo noted federal agencies have 14 days to detail all federal funds to these cities.    It also directed Vought to issue guidance in 30 days on restricting the eligibility to the maximum extent permitted by law of "anarchist jurisdictions" to receive federal grants.
The memo cited New York City's recent increase in crime amid a push to defund police.    According to reports, the Big Apple gets around $7 billion a year in federal aid, but also recently approved a budget cutting $1 billion from the NYPD.    The budget cut comes as the city has seen a 177-percent surge in shootings in July compared to last year.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called an emergency briefing following reports of the president's memo.    He issued what appeared to be a thinly veiled threat at President Trump.
"He can't come back to New York...he can't," aid Cuomo.    "He's gonna walk down the street in New York..forget bodyguards..he better have an army if he thinks he's gonna walk down the street in New York."
In the memo, President Trump noted the need to call National Guard troops to Washington, D.C.    He said Mayor Muriel Bowser allowed "rioters and anarchists" to engage in violence and destruction in late May and early June.
Portland was also targeted as it nears 100 days of daily demonstrations, many of which turned violent after sunset.    Riots recently claimed the life of one demonstrator and agitators were seen breaking into the building where Mayor Ted Wheeler lives.

Seattle was listed for “tolerating an autonomous zone.”    The memo referenced the infamous ‘CHOP zone’ that was dismantled at the beginning of July, but not before a series of crimes in and around the zone.    This included a shooting that left one man dead.
One official said the cities and possibly states targeted for defunding will be updated with input from the Justice Department.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany recently addressed President Trump's calls to defund Democrat cities facing violent protests.
During a press conference Thursday, McEnany told reporters the move is meant to protect the life, liberty and property of people as well as businesses attacked by rioters.    She said the order is meant to push states to act in their full capacity to stamp out anarchist violence.
The press secretary pointed to cities such as New York City, Seattle and Portland where increased violence has been on the rise in recent weeks.    As cited by McEnany, New York has seen a 177-percent increase in shootings while approximately 140 officers were injured during unrest in Portland.
"This is a dereliction of duty and if the states will not act in their police power and secure their streets, this president will use every lawful mechanism to him to try to supplement their failures," she stated.
The memo calls for Attorney General William Barr to make a list of what are considered "anarchist jurisdictions."    Cities on the list will be less likely to receive full federal grants.    President Trump said he's looking to cut federal funding to cities that have allowed a loss of law and order.
The memo, released Thursday, noted federal agencies have 14 days to detail all federal funds to these cities, which includes New York City, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C.    It also directed White House Budget Director Russ Vought to issue guidance in 30 days on restricting the eligibility to the maximum extent permitted by law.
